Contacting Officials
Aug 19th, 2010 by Staff
- When contacting elected officials, please be aware of the heirarchy of communication.
This list is ordered starting with what is most paid attention to first:
- Phone calls
- Hand-written letters
- Faxes
- Personal Emails
- Emails that look like a form letter
. . .
Please ask these officials the following:
Please follow the advice of Dr. Michael Crosby of Mote Marine Laboratory and keep pressure on BP. They need to pay in full for ALL damages caused by their reckless disregard for proper safety procedures. Please do all you can to ensure that this kind of event never happens again. We simply cannot let a corporation (nor a government) disregard proper precautionary protocols any more.
Two major points to stress in your phone calls and letters:
- Demand an immediate halt to the use of toxic dispersants now and in the future. They have made the problem worse by creating underwater plumes and contaminating the food chain.
- Demand independent testing of air, our seabed, and the water column, for oil and dispersants, including the most toxic ingredients: 2BE and Propylene Glycol.
